World Hunger

How many meals do you eat a day? Have you ever gone a day without eating? How about a week? Did you know that more than 800 million people all over the world know what it means to go to bed hungry every night? Sadly, about 24,000 people die from the effects of hunger each day. That's about one person every 3.5 seconds. They are not hungry because they haven't eaten today. Many of these families do not eat for weeks due to their lack of money to provide their family with food. Most poor people who battle hunger deal with chronic undernourishment and vitamin or mineral deficiencies, which result in stunted growth, weakness and heightened susceptibility to illness. More than 1.2 billion people currently live below the international poverty line, earning less than $1 per day. Undernourishment negatively affects people's health, productivity, sense of hope and overall well-being. A lack of food can stunt growth, slow thinking, sap energy, hinder fetal development and contribute to mental retardation.153 million children under 5 in the developing world are underweight. Worse yet, 11 million children younger than 5 die every year, more than half from hunger-related causes.

Those are all random facts taken from different websites but the truth is that there are millions of people dying from starvation. Lack of food causes a breakdown of the body leading to many things such as mental retardation, immunodifficiency and other illness. Do not take any meal for granted for you never know if that one will be your last.

I cant believe that so many people actually have nothing to eat for more than a day. I go crazy when I dont eat every three hours.

It's sad that there are millions of people out there suffering from hunger, and we dont even have to go to other countries such as Peru or Ecuador or Chile, here in Miami, you see homeless persons looking through trash cans for food or sleeping under the sun or rain. Its really sad and it makes you want to be grateful for eveything that you have at least that is how i feel. Another thing i always feel really bad when i watch the commercials on the TV that ask you for money for kids with hunger and necessities and they show the kids and they are barefoot and dirty. It makes me feel really sad that a kid that is suppose to be playing and having fun has to live under those conditions.
